Kite Beach Yucatan is a fun adventurous project being the first school to set up here in such a vast unchartered area. The local kitesurf scene welcomed me with open arms excited about the idea that someone was going to open the sport worldwide here. Local riders drive from the city of Merida after work and on weekends to ride the shallow warm waters of Progreso’s ocean front. After a session everyone heads home to shower and eat at one of the many trendy restaurant / bars in Merida. Currently nothing is developed here to bring kitesurfers / windsurfer together.

Many years ago there was a bustling windsurf / hobbie-cat / sailing scene here until the big hurricane about 15 years ago wiped out the entire place. Now we have a coastline riddled with luxury vacation homes of the wealthy Mexicans, smaller semi-abandoned places never really rebuilt after the storm and a handful of new school kitesurfers.
