aaron hadlow kiteboarding. Aaron Hadlow Kiteboarding World Champion. After another good winter of wind, together with my parents, I decided that I would give the 2003 PKRA world tour a go. In the first event I finished 9th, I had a few more 9th places, some 5th and I managed to podium in 3rd position to finish off the year in Brazil. I took an overall 6th place for the season - that was amazing! I was so pleased to be in that position, I mean, had only turned 14 just before the last event!

Tell me about yourself...
Aaron Hadlow kiteboarding champion says:
I started to fly kites when I was 10. My Dad Kitesurfed before me and I would always come down and watch, and when he came off the water I would always run down to fly the kite before we left.

I started Kitesurfing in 2000, I went on a family holiday to Cabarete in the DR and that is when I really got into the sport. In 2 weeks I was up and staying up wind so by then I was hooked.

One year later I started to compete in the UK national events, at first I was the only junior and finished low in the men's amateurs. By the end of the season there were more juniors, I won that and I was able to finish 3rd overall in the men's amateurs.

In the beginning of 2002 I started to compete in the Pro division of the UK nationals. I did well and finished 2nd at the end of the year, winning a few events on the way. Again we headed back to SA.

After the good wind of the last couple of years we decided to go back to SA for another time, again with good wind I had another good winter learning new stuff and also doing filming for Fatsand productions.

The event didn't finish and it only got to the semi final stage although I hadn't been knocked out and finished joint first with 4 others. I hadn't expected this and after winning the next stop in Belgium things seemed to be getting better and better.
Straight after this event we went to the US for the Velocity Games, just for the experience, and to use the kickers and sliders. I came away with an unreal 1st. The rest of the season I had a few more firsts and seconds gathering enough points to take the 04 world tour by the 5th stop in fuerte.

The up side it much greater though, traveling, meeting people, having friends all over the world, also I appreciate my time, family and friends back home much more.

- Are there any differences in surfing styles between men and women?
No, I think that the style in kitesurfing is pretty much the same, just the level is very different.

To stay on top you have to stay fit and always be looking to bring something new to the sport. It is demanding on you knees and ankles mostly and is getting more extreme.
